Tulbagh – Secret Falls

Tulbagh – Secret Falls

There are two camp sites at secret falls.  One with cottages and the other, which our group opted for, was the 4×4 camp site up the Winterhoek West mountain slope.  We took the road up to the camp site in ideal dry conditions and had to engage low range first to crawl up.  The drive would have been uncomfortable otherwise.  Take it slow up as there are a few cross axle spots as well as loose and sharp rocks to navigate over and through.  It’s a one vehicle track and very narrow for most of the way.  Passing another vehicle going up or down will be a challenge.

There are hiking trails for which you can get all the information on their website linked at the start of the article.

The camp site is very neat and clean and you feel right at home when you are there.  Lots of lush green grass all over the camp sites.  The camp sites are staggered up the slope, fairly close to each other so that you do not have to walk far to visit someone else.  There are fresh water from the mountain available at multiple taps around the camp site.

The ablutions are also very neat and clean with a view out over the valley.  Two hot showers with basins and toilets as well as a separate wash basin.

We really enjoyed our camp there and will return without a doubt very soon.  It’s a quick scenic drive from the city to this beautiful camp site.

Looking back up the mountain in the morning.

This was taken with the pool at my back looking up at the camp sites.  There are seven spots to camp on with ample space on each for your car, tent and a gazebo.secretfalls5

The pool is a must for those very hot summer days and in it you look out over the valley.  The view is breathtaking.
