Tulbagh – Secret Falls

Tulbagh – Secret Falls

There are two camp sites at secret falls.  One with cottages and the other, which our group opted for, was the 4×4 camp site up the Winterhoek West mountain slope.  We took the road up to the camp site in ideal dry conditions and had to engage low range first to crawl up.  The drive would have been uncomfortable otherwise.  Take it slow up as there are a few cross axle spots as well as loose and sharp rocks to navigate over and through.  It’s a one vehicle track and very narrow for most of the way.  Passing another vehicle going up or down will be a challenge.

NAMIBIA… our trip to the land of contrast and endless horizons: 8 – 23 August 2014

written by Jackie Scott

Oh, how can I say this: People need wild places. Whether or not we think we do, we do. We need to be able to taste grace and know once again that we desire it. We need to experience a landscape that is timeless, whose agenda moves at the pace of speciation and glaciers. To be surrounded by a singing, mating, howling commotion of other species, all of which love their lives as much as we do ours, and none of which could possibly care less about our economic status or our running day calendar. Wildness puts us in our place. It reminds us that our plans are small and somewhat absurd.

Excerpt from Small Wonder? by Barbara Kingsolver

Kruistementvlei – Piket Bo Berg

This weekend we went camping at Kruistementvlei (http://kruistementvlei.webs.com/) and I can honestly say its one of the best campsites I’ve been to. If you are 10 or more people (I beleive) you have the whole site to yourself (although you can fit a whole lot more people in there) and at R50 per person per night its an absolute steal.
